International Day of Older Persons – a model of how to care for and celebrate those in your community!
- Some came with the idea (Social Assistance) – others analyzed and decided (Local Public Administration, NGO); (20 food packages from Cobani Town Hall, 40 packages from AO Neemia)
- Some bought the products (AO Neemia, Peace Corps volunteer), others packed them (young volunteers)
- Some donated jars (local villagers), others filled them with honey (volunteers)
- Some came up with the idea (AO Neemia employees), others made greeting cards (children from the Community Center)
- Some provided the lists (Social Assistance), others distributed the packages (Mayor, Volunteers, AO Neemia employees, Social Assistance)
Many people were involved so that 60 people over the age of 80 in Cobani could receive visits and small gifts.
Lessons learned:
- Partnership makes us more capable of achieving our goals and meeting needs.
- Young people and children have potential and can offer a lot to their community if they are organized and motivated.
- Elderly people gladly receive gifts, but more than that, they appreciate “that someone opened their gate and crossed their threshold,” showing them they are not forgotten.
- Any effort is worth it to bring joy and beautiful emotions to the elderly.
So many beautiful emotions and care can be shown when we unite our efforts! Thank you to everyone involved!
